Services: Introduction to DIWE

For teachers who are unfamiliar with the Daedalus Integrated Writing Environment (DIWE), we offer an on-campus workshop that will give you the skills you need to use the software effectively.

Workshop Overview
This two-day workshop provides teachers a working knowledge of the software's primary features from the perspective of both the student and the instructor. The student perspective, which is sometimes overlooked, is important for two reasons:

Teachers need an intimate understanding of how all the tools work so they can begin to imagine how they will integrate the tools into their pedagogy and curriculum.
Since they are often the primary trainers for their students, teachers need expertise in using the tools themselves.

Objectives
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to do the following:

Experience a full essay-writing cycle using each of DIWE's main features.
Use Invent for prewriting about a topic.
Create custom Invent content to help students with a writing assignment.
Use InterChange for an online discussion of a short reading assignment.
Set up effective InterChange sessions and create a transcript of the discussions.
Use Write to compose a short draft.
Exchange drafts electronically for peer editing.
Use Respond to write suggestions for revising another participant's draft.
Use Mail for informal collaborative learning activities.
Set up effective Mail conferences and remove them when they are no longer needed.
Use BiblioCite to create properly formatted bibliographies in MLA and APA format.
Create effective Class Assignments for organizing students' activities in DIWE.
